Portfolio

My editing work spans different sectors, and the variety in my work makes me a well-rounded editor. My business clients include non-profits, marketing consultants, financial advisors and institutions, and educational groups.

In trade publishing, I have freelanced for large publishing houses as well as small, independent presses. I have experience working with self-published authors and agents on manuscripts before acceptance. For examples of trade titles that I have worked on, see below.

Moondust in My Hairnet (Apr 2024)

I provided a sensitivity read on the 2SLGTBQIA+ and polyamorous content in this title, combined with a light, incidental proofread (catching mistakes as I read through once).

5-minute Hockey Stories (Oct 2024)

I proofread this title, including checking grammar and punctuation, ensuring adherence to the copyeditor's style sheet, checking page design and typesetting, comparing text descriptions to illustration content, and updating the table of contents.

The Ultimate Christmas Activity Book (Oct 2024)

I wrote the toy stories, trivia, crossword puzzles, wordsearches, and some of the activities. I also wrote transitional material and instructions, and organized the collected content according to the outline, checking for missing and duplicated content.

The Ultimate Hockey Activity Book (Aug 2023)

I was a pinch hitter on this book. I wrote some of the crossword puzzles and word searches; drafted instructions and titles, as needed; cleaned up and reordered the manuscript based on the editor's outline; and tagged the manuscript for typesetting.

Cupid's Compass (June 2023)

I was a beta reader on this self-published work. I gave feedback on the multiple POVs, story structure, and chapter ordering. I also suggested revisions to the first chapter to increase the impact of the readers' first impression.

The Great Canadian Cottage Book (May 2023)

I researched and wrote the Wildlife section of this non-fiction title. I also condensed and edited several of the featured Campfire stories, as well as reworked all the quiz material for the new format. I also wrote the "Name That..." feature, and I assisted with the proofreading of the text as a whole.

You Don't Understand Me cover.jpg

You Don't Understand Me (Dec 2022)

I Canadianized the text of this book, originally published in the UK, which included carefully proofreading the text to change UK spellings to Canadian ones, as well as rewording UK slang and figures of speech to ones more familiar to a Canadian audience.

Song of the Sparrow (March 2023)

I marked up changes and checked corrections during the intensive editing process, including double checking global changes with multiple read-throughs. I was instrumental in this book going to press on time.

No place like home cover.jpg

No Place Like Home (March 2023)

I cold read this title (which means to do a read after the editing process to check for missed changes). My queries resulted in clarifications in several scenes, and I caught some punctuation and spelling mistakes that had slipped under the radar.

Silverwing cover.jpg

Silverwing: The Graphic Novel (Sept 2023)

I cold read this title as well, and my queries resulted in a timeline clarification. I also regularized the punctuation typography and caught a few instances of speech bubbles pointing to the wrong character.

Theory of Crows cover.jpg

The Theory of Crows (Sept 2022)

I cold read this title to check that the timeline changes and clarifications requested by the copy editor were all implemented clearly and that the issues were resolved. I also marked up author changes and checked that they were input correctly.
